Yeah this is cool, this is totally awesome *sings*

I'm just back from watching The Legend of the Guardians and have to say that I'm more than positively surprised. Actually, I came out of this movie really, really excited and happy and inspired. I've been craving a nice, well-done fantasy-movie for a while and well, here it was.

If you can get past the fact that it's all about owls (and you will, quickly), then it's a wonderful classical, sometimes dark heroic tale. Predictable, too, but that didn't bother me in the least because it was told so wonderfully. And the visuals, oh, they are stunning. The pictures alone are beautiful, but this is actually one of the few movies where 3D is really worth the money. Only the slo-mo scenes were a little too much sometimes, but that's Zack Snyder for you.

Now I only need to make up my mind, whether I want to buy the German version of the books (hardcover, hence horrendously expensive) or the English one (which I couldn't share with a friend who'd want to read them as well, but isn't so fit in English). Hum.

Other things I'm watching and excited about: The Odyssey, a Canadian TV show from the early 90ies. I watched it when I was a child but could only remember bits and pieces of it until recently when I did a research (bless the internet). Turns out I wasn't just imagining the show and turns out it's actually quite engaging.

The plot's about a boy that falls from a tree-house, ends up in a coma and dreams of another world where only children exist. It's a little bit fantastic, a little bit sci-fi, the costumes and make-ups are hideously 90ies and the acting is so-so. And well, it's a freaking kids series. But damn. Something about it has me hooked (again). Furthermore, I have this vague suspicion that this show might be the reason why dream-/mindworlds and questionable realities later turned out to be one of my most favourite tropes in fiction (see also: Inception, SPN's "In my time of dying", Alice in Wonderland, etc. pp.)
