ayascythe: Pink Reaper (The Eagle ~ Esca ~ Back)

Fandom squee and pimping

Because this fandom is still so small and needs more love, even though it is the slashiest thing I have come across since, I don't know, Brokeback Moutain?

Four reasons to love The Eagle of the Ninth (includes spoilers and quotes)

1. It's (b)romantic. (Book!verse)

"I am the Centurion's hound, to lie at the Centurion's feet."
"I have not served the Centurion because I was his slave"

Marcus and Esca are totes in love with each other at first sight. It's described as this ~very special moment~ when all they can see is each other and Marcus needs to save this slave's life, no matter what. Marcus buys Esca as a slave and Esca doesn't run away on the way to the Aquila mansion because he "hopes in his heart that it would be Marcus who has bought him". Oh. Okay.
Their relationship is much more harmonic in the book, based on respect and friendship and they set out for the search of the Eagle as equals. Marcus gives Esca his freedom and Esca chooses to stay with him. They are very domestic and they have a pet wolf together that Esca brought home from a hunt for Marcus. It's bromantic and lovey-dovey and wonderful. There is one female love interest who seemed too young to me and Marcus treated her more like a little sister. I like Cottia, but I was mildly confused about her purpose. Also, he kept forgetting about her all the time. In the end, Marcus runs off with Esca and Cottia to build up a farm and live happily ever after.

2. It's full of UST and powerplay. (Movie!verse)

"You're my slave. Do as I did for you, and you'll survive."
"I thought I had lost you."
"You are free, my friend."

Marcus and Esca are totes in love with each other at first sight. It's just as special and slo-mo-ish as in the book, when they first look at each other. Marcus seems to be genuinely confused about his own actions, though. And then his uncle buys Esca for him as a body slave. Marcus is like "I don't need one", while Esca is like "I don't want to be here either and I haaaate you, but I'm in your debt so take my damn services."
Their relationship is very (in)tense from day one and there seems to simmer so much underneath everything they do and it's so much UST, I cannot even. *fans self* They pass the Hadrian's Wall still as master and slave, but the power dynamics shift from that moment on. Because movie!Marcus (unlike book!Marcus) doesn't know the language and has to depend on Esca. AND THEN THERE'S THIS WONDERFUL SHIFT IN POWER DYNAMICS AND MARCUS IS ESCA'S SLAVE. I don't see why anyone would need more reasons to start having fun in this fandom. Marcus is equally pissed about the situation as he is like a kicked, confused puppy (because quote, "I thought I had lost you", unquote). While Esca pretends to be indifferent but really cannot stand to see Marcus suffer. (Me however, I can. I might have mentioned it, but Channing Tatum looks good at it.) Or maybe he gets secretly a kick out of it, who knows?! The possibilities for fic are limitless.
They go from hate to dependance to "betrayal" to complete trust and love friendship. Finally, after they run off with the Eagle, there is this scene where Marcus can't go on because of his wounded leg. He is all "go and take the Eagle, Esca", but Esca bargains for his freedom. And suddenly, this absolutely cheesy, epic, romantic music starts to play and Marcus gives Esca his freedom, Esca cups Marcus' head in his hands and says "I'll come back".

3. Even the actors are in love (RPS).

For those who can't get into sexy Romans and Brits, there is still the possibility of Real Person Slash. Channing and Jamie basically fangirl each other and especially Channing is all: "Yeah, he's sexy."

Need proof?

DA: In the film your character got to be really good friends with Esca (Jamie Bell). Do you still keep in contact with him?
CT: Yeah, a lot. You see each other so intensely for a certain amount of time, like we were together for over three months, you know, every day, every single day. And then you just leave. It’s sort of like you go through withdrawals you know, you’re kinda like, ‘I wonder what Jamie’s doing?’ You just want to call him and hang out. But you just get busy. It’s hard to keep in touch with people, but he will always be one of my dearest friends. I’m actually gonna see him soon so I’m excited. It’s kinda like seeing an old girlfriend or something, you’re just like, ‘I love you, man.’

TeenHollywood: Were you disappointed that there wasn’t a romantic element to the movie because that’s kind of what you’re known for?
Channing Tatum in "The Eagle." | Focus FeaturesChanning: You didn’t see it with me and Jamie? That was the tension between us. It was all underneath the skin. We were wearing skirts. [laughs] But, no. That’s what makes the movie kind of different. It doesn’t try to succumb to the Bravehearts and the Gladiators which are such epics and we weren’t trying to hit that golden ring. We were trying to do something different, more intimate, maybe a little more realistic. I think [a romance] would have been a little distracting and take away from the real tension. It would have dropped it for a second. This way, it stays simmering the whole time with Jamie and I.

Jamie: "You mean, like Brokeback Eagle? Oh yeah, the bromance is all over this movie."
Channing: "We really got along very, very well."

Q. The odd thing about “The Eagle’’ is the absence of a romantic interest. There are no girls.
A. Yeah, the whole structure of the film is strange. It’s not typical as far as that goes. There was a relationship with one of the northern tribeswomen, but it got cut because it was confusing.
Q. I thought maybe you and [costar] Jamie Bell were going to get together.
A. He’s a sexy man. It could have happened.

There’s been a lot of buzz about the master-slave relationship going on there. Seems a little BDSM.
I think Jamie had a lot of fun having me as a slave. I don’t think I took advantage of it like I should have when he was my slave. But Jamie, yeah — he abused me. So maybe there was some frustration coming out a little bit here and there.
[...]
How about in real life?
Jamie and I have a bromance. We’ve been having sex for a few years now.

How’s that going?
Going fantastic.

He’s a lot smaller than you. He’s really small.
He’s a goer though.

What’s a goer?
I don’t know. I just made it up.

OH CHANNING TATUM. SO SUAVE. Also, I want to see them dance together, HOW FUCKING SEXY WOULD THAT BE:

TeenHollywood: You guys are great dancers but you didn’t dance in the film. How about off set?
Channing: Well, Jamie would refuse to dance for a while and then he’d bust something out. He’s kind of shy about it but we did a caleigh which is a more aggressive, violent Ring Around the Rosy. But it’s so much fun. Everyone in the entire [Scottish] village comes to this hall and everyone sings and brings their instruments and everyone gets up and dances. It’s so much fun.

4. Mr. Handsome and Mr. Pretty. (aka: eyecandy)

He does look splendid in that uniform.

UNNFFF.

Nuff said. :D

Ich hab es leider nur einmal geschafft, aber wenn erstmal die DVD raus ist, wird das bis zum Erbrechen geguckt ... *grins*
Klar, linke, was das Zeug hält. ;) Das Fandom braucht mehr Liebe!

*giggle*
Ach ja ich weiß ganz genau was du meinst. ;D

http://pics.livejournal.com/macfraser82/pic/0000wtp6

Schickes icon btw *gg*
*gg*
Wo hast du den deine icons her?

Schicke Wandscroll^^
