This Wikipedia article makes me weep for the fact that there will never be a second season of Kings.

WEEP. WEEEEEEP.

Jonathan, however, is slain on Mt. Gilboa

Then again, maybe not.

"How have the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain on your high places. "I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was more wonderful Than the love of women. "How have the mighty fallen, And the weapons of war perished!"

OR MAYBE IT DOES.

Seriously, though. I can't get over how amazing this show is (it actually made me pick up the effing Bible, because I wanted to know how the story goes on; unfortunately it's much more boring than in Kings). And I have way too many thoughts and feelings about it. Like:

- Thomasina is totally Phil Coulson as a woman, y/y? I love her so much!

- I kind of loved Rose Benjamin as well as a, huh, lady in the shadows? A mastermind in the background? Because she keeps the family together, if not on an emotional level, then for the public and appearances. She knows the expectiations and therefore tries to make everything perfect. At the same time, she's not free from emotions either, because she loves both of her children very much.

- I hate, hate, haaaaaaaaaaate William Cross for everything he's done to the family and especially Jack. Also, he's got an annoying voice and now he's also on Political Animals as Vice President and I went all "dafuck?" when I saw him there. I will hate his character there, too, just because I can.

- Macauly Culkin as Cross' son creeps the hell out of me. I don't even know what it is, but something about his behaviour screams "psychopath!" at me so loudly I can't ignore it. The way he's always so quiet and calm and ARGH. Also, I'd really like to know why he was in exile. (But of course, we'll never find out. *weeps*)

- I kind of love that the show doesn't try to play down its mystical and religious aspects. I mean, yes, it's a biblical story, but I guess a lot of shows and movies often shy away from becoming too religious. Kings, however, is never too preachy, it's just a world where god still plays a big role and influences the happenings on earth. But in a very, very subtle way. I think that's kind of refreshing and amazing. (Also: DEATH ADKJSLFKJAFD, which is a character with which you will always win my attention and love).

- Yes, [livejournal.com profile] 3ngel, I love the palace guards, too. They're adorable and add a bit of humour and, I don't know, humanity to the show? It's like, even when kingdoms are at war and Silas tries to ruin David's life and Michelle is being all "but my vows!" and Jack is angsting, there are these two guys who keep going, because it's their job and their job is important. And at the end of the day, the go home to their friends and families and have a beer, but duty will always bring them back.

- Silas was ... fascinating might be the right word for it. He wasn't exactly a likeable character, because you could see all his flaws and faults, and boy, did he do some shitty things to David and his son. But then he would start to talk and you couldn't help but listening, because he was that convincing, impressing and charismatic. Kudos to Ian McShane for a fantastic performance.

- David's actor looks disturbingly like a young Heath Ledger. I thought his character was nice, maybe a bit boring, but he had his moments. Same goes for Michelle and their romance. Then again, who am I kidding? We all know why watched this show, right?

- Jack. Where do I start with Jack? Jack makes me want to bake cookies, wrap him in a blanket and tell him that everything's going to be okay somehow, even if it's a lie. He is so fucking broken that I can barely handle it, and I'm saying this as a loving Tony Stark and Dean Winchester fan. Just that one scene in the pilot is like a punch in the gut, because Jack comes off as this arrogant, slightly bratty playboy, and then there is Silas making him feel disgusting and ashamed for the very thing he is and tried so hard to hide.
And, okay. I have to say it: Sebastian Stan is a fucking god at playing angsty, broken characters. He acts the hell out of this scene (and all of his later appearances, too). He can go from smiling to devastatingly sad in a heartbeat, and a lot of times, he's even still wearing the smile while you can see him falling apart behind the mask. OH GOD I COULD GO ON AND ON, OKAY. Jack makes me want to cry just by default (and I did cry a few times), because everything about him is so tragic it hurts.

why was i given emotions

Here, have some horrible wonderful fanvids that will make you cry see how amazing Stan is in this role:

Conclusion: Kings is probably not a show for everyone. There's some heavy stuff going on and it's rarely optimistic, let alone happy. But it has also amazing cutting and camera work and a beautiful spiritual soundtrack. I probably don't have to say much about the actors, because they were all A++++. ALSO: SEBASTIAN STAN.
