Part of me likes to think that Derek keeps picking all the losers for his pack not just because of obvious practical reasons - like, they are desperate enough to say yes and no one will miss them or really pay attention to them, if they change - but because he knows. He knows and remembers what it's like to be a lost and broken kid, to be powerless and lonely. Hell, part of him still is that lonely kid no one will listen to and that has no one he can trust. Not even Scott, who's of his own kind, gives him an ounce of trust, so Derek needs to create people he can trust, a pack
Also, can we please talk about how Derek is so faily at interacting in general, but such a ~charmer with the ladies~? He can actually be pretty persuasive, if he wants to, re: police woman and Erica. But that's only on a flirtatious, sexual level, maybe because sex and using his looks doesn't mean anything to him (anymore)? I imagine a cocky young Derek at the age of 16 or something, full of himself and oh-so proud that he managed to get the most beautiful girl at school to date him and maybe, maybe, this time it's for real. Except that girl is Kate Argent and every night they spend together is just a way of hurting him and luring out his secrets. So that's what he takes from his probably last relationship to a person up until today (save his sister maybe): love is an illusion, trust means death and sex is only a means to get you what you want. Obviously, he learned from the best.
Holy shit, where came all that Derek meta from.
PS: I keep forgetting to mention it, but I really dig the new Teen Wolf intro. I really, really do. It's so BAMF, I love it.
