Title: Cold Iron
Characters: Ethan, Darcie
Rating: PG
Categories/Warnings: none
Summary: Ethan gives Darcie a gift. (Set after 1x06.)
A/N: Just a drabble that jumped at me.
Cold Iron
„Here. Found this on the market last night. I ... want you to have it.“ Ethan looks positively awkward as he waits for Darcie's reaction, but she only smiles.
„Thank you.“ She eyes the little pendant curiously. The metal feels cool and not quite smooth to her touch, still there is something warm and reassuring about it. „A horse shoe ... so it's for good luck, then?“
„Protection.“
„I see,“ she says and then, somewhat puzzled, „against what?“
But when she looks up again, Ethan has already gone away and back to the stables.
*Cold iron was said to be poisonous for fairies, thus being used as a protective measure back in the days when people still believed in them.
