DID I MENTION I HATE PENALTY SHOOT-OUTS? Argh, and I was so rooting for Ghana. They would have deserved it. (Damn you, Suarez for that handplay. I hope the Dutch will crush Uruguay.)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
(I guess a summary won't be necessary. ;))
This will be the umpteenth time I read this book, but the first time in English. Don't ask me how or why, but CoS is the only HP book I never had the opportunity to read in English up until now, despite it being my favourite volume. I bought it several months ago with this very shiny, very pretty "adult" cover.

The City of Dreaming Books (original title: Die Stadt der Träumenden Bücher) by Walter Moers
Optimus Yarnspinner (Hildegunst von Mythenmetz in the German version) is a Lindworm (dinosaur) who inherits his authorial godfather's possessions, including a perfect story written by an unknown author. An aspiring author himself, he travels to Bookholm, the city of dreaming books, in search of the unknown writer. Upon arrival, Yarnspinner falls in love with the city because of its literary appreciation. But beneath Bookholm stretch vast labyrinthine catacombs in which many valuable books lie hidden – but also dangers of unimaginable sorts: the deadly Toxicotomes – books which can injure and kill anyone who touches them, blood-thirsty book hunters, and worst of all, the Shadow King.
I'm not a person to have just one favourite book/movie/whatever, so I chose one of many books that are precious to me. The City of Dreaming Books was the first Zamonia novel I read and is also my favourite one. I remember being immensely in awe while reading this book. If you can get past Moers' slightly straying writing style and countless lists of whatnot, it's crazy, witty, ridiculous, funny, lovely, fantastic and so much more. Most of all: its depicture of Bookholm and its creatures is so vivid that it makes "books" and "reading" something almost physical, something actually alive.
