Everyone's a composer

- I'm making notes for Compression Procedures and keep writing MPREG instead of MPEG. Oh, the damage fandom has done to my brain. I hope this doesn't happen while writing the exam.
- Somewhat related to that: out of curiosity, I looked up the trailer for "The Human Centipede" and was left with a queasy stomach for the rest of the morning and a major
OMGWHYYYYYPLSMAKEMEUNSEETHISsquick-feeling for the rest of the day. There are times when I wish brain bleach was a real product I could use to erase my memories. (In case anyone feels inspired to watch the trailer for themselves: read the Wikipedia page first. It's the kind of thing that makes people either burst into fits of laughter or is high-octane nightmare fuel. For me, it's the latter.)

Die entführte Prinzessin by Karen Duve (Engl. ~ The Kidnapped Princess)
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom with an unpronounceable name (Snögglinduralthorma), but it was only called "Northland" because it was in the far north. King Rothafur had a queen who was the only one who dared to contradict him, a son who would heir the throne and a daughter, Princess Lisvana, that needed to be married. But nobody wanted to marry Lisvana, because her marriage-portion was really cheap and crappy. At least until Diego, the black prince of Baskarien (the richest, most powerful country) came along ... Oh, and then there's some business with a jealous knight, a kidnapping, a crazy wizard and a cuddly dragon. (Summary made by me, because there's only a German version of the book.)
Ok, I admit, the book-order on my shelf is a mess (I have no idea where to put all those books anymore, seriously), so I
I discovered this in our local library years ago and recently found a cheap copy on a book-sale. It's far from being high-literature, the writing is actually rather simple, but the story is just so-fucking-much fun and pure crack. Duve takes every fairy-tale/knight-princess-dragon-story cliche and turns them around or makes fun of them. I love the characters: Diego, the spoiled emo!prince who is a vegetarian because he hates plants and wants to kill as many of them as possible. Bredur (who I imagine to look like Olof Mellberg, rawrr), the jealous knight who is struggling for his father's acceptance and Lisvana's love, only to end up with something completely different. Lisvana, who is kind of an opportunistic bitch and too proud for her own good. And somewhere around the last third of the novel, there turns out to be some slashy tension between Bredur and Diego. <3 Unintentional, of course, but damn, those two should have ended up together. XD
Besides, it's only got 400 pages and is a very quick read, so if you're in need of a little fun? Maybe just give it a chance.^^
