ayascythe: Pink Reaper (Iron Man ~ Tony)
[personal profile] ayascythe
Catching up after a week without internet, part 2: fic recs! Some Loki/Thor and mostly Iron Man/Captain America, because those two ate my brain and I want to marry Tony Stark just so I can have his glorious snark in my life forever. Some of the recs are from my flist - sorry, if you've already seen them somewhere else before. Also: holyfuckingshit that Avengers trailer! *whimpers* If I didn't already ship Tony/Steve, I would've lost my brain after their banter.

Horn and Ivory by valtyr
Steve's not sure what's real anymore. (Inception fusion.)

This is not exactly an Inception crossover, but the technology exists in this verse (invented by Stark Industries, of course!) and it just fits and works. I also love when people play with the idea that Tony probably had a massive fanboy crush on Captain America since he was a kid. This fic takes it onto another level, bittersweetly so. I wish there was a sequel, but it's awesome as it is.

Trial and Error by valtyr
Written for the prompt: "Steve/Tony, unrequited love/pining. Except this time, it's Steve with the crush and Tony who's oblivious. Bonus points if Tony isn't crushing on Steve at first because he honestly never even thought of it, but when he finds out he realizes that he approves. Enthusiastically." I focused rather heavily on the bonus points.

Sweet and fun.

Tomorrow Belongs To Me by valtyr
Steve wakes up in the 21st Century. He doesn't think much of it, and it's dubious about him. He meets a Norse God, joins a superhero team, and feels terribly awkward about the whole momument at Arlington he's rendered obsolete by not being dead. Meanwhile, Tony is trying to make his mark on history by being the man who finally drove Nick Fury over the edge.

Don't read this when you have to get up early the next day or have any sort of RL to attend to, because it is freakishly long and it will eat your brain, I swear. I was madly adiccted after the first quarter or so and couldn't stop reading. I loved everyone in there, not only Tony and Steve, but also Natasha (who was fierce) and Clint and Thor (who was like an overexcited Labrador puppy) and Jane (who rocks) and Darcy (who is generally awesome). Except maybe for Loki, who I felt was depictured as a little too harmless. Whatever. Awesome fic. Wonderful relationship development between Tony and Steve, it literally made me squee and flail with happiness.

Secrets of a Successful Marriage by valtyr
Tony Stark lives a double life; he's secretly the supervillain known as Iron Man. But his loving husband Steve has a few secrets of his own, as Tony is about to discover.

Another pretty long and pretty great fic. It's a little schmoopy, but in a good way, and it's just so much fun to read. (I want to make clear that I'm not trying to do covert advertising for that author, she just wrote tons about Tony/Steve and I always seem to end up with her fics. XD)

In the Whisper of the Wind by reason_says
Loki is everyone, Loki is everything. Loki is a nuisance.

Loki tries to seduce Tony Stark and gets very inventive about it. I thought this was an interesting read and I loved the Tony/Loki interaction.

What I Did For Love by lamanguejoyeuse
Capkink fill: "Steve, post defrost, has heard about/is told Twilight is the most romantic thing ever. The popularity of it in the modern world makes him think this is how ideal romance is done in this era, so, when he falls for someone, the natural next step is acting like Edward. Moodiness, mixed signals, watching someone in their sleep, the works. He finds all of it really creepy and confusing but this is how it's done now, right?"

Because everyone loves crack! XD

And Begin Again Tomorrow by BlackEyedGirl
Steve can tell there’s something wrong with Tony. He just doesn’t know what happened. Or why Tony’s friends seem to think it’s his fault.
Written for a capkink prompt of Steve making a comment that upsets Tony, without him realising it.

I love angsting Tony who's trying so hard to act like nothing's wrong but is actually not okay.

I'll Scrape You Up and Reconstruct You by waketosleep
Steve should probably just stop punching holes in things.

Tony + Steve + dancing lessons. No slash, just bromance, but equally great fun.

Bad Meets Evil by MetaAllu
À la 5+1. For the following CapKink prompt: This can be long or short, author's choice, but you have to have seen the movie. Based on the last scene of Howard searching the ice, show me five moments of unrequited love between him and Cap, be it from the era's views on same-sex relationships or just because Steve is an adorably clueless and bashful man. End with a bit of introspection during the aforementioned scene of Howard. Bonus if there's a Cap/Tony epilogue, and keep it as sweet and heartbreakingly sappy as possible.

Because Howard Stark is almost as awesome as his son and I love the tragic relationship he and Steve (could) have (had) together.

Some Assembly Required by shirozora
In which Tony Stark and Thor talk about being betrayed by people they trusted and loved, and then get drunk. Clint isn't pleased because it's his beer and Steve continues to be adorable.

What it says, and it's fun. :D

Wishing Well by shirozora
And you just wanna feel like a coin that's been tossed
In a wishing well, a wishing well.

Kissing lessons for Steve with Howard Stark. Wonderful, bittersweet, angsty and wonderful. There's a sequel, but it only has one chapter so far. I hope there will be more.

The Captain and the Creator by MetaAllu
“We once lived on a planet,” the children hush as the Captain speaks, and inside his head, Tony is laughing at him. Tony doesn’t feel sadness like he does. “A real planet, made of dirt and water and magma, not metal and chemicals and machines.”

I read this fic just because I thought the summary sounded intriguing and it really is an extraordinary fic. It's probably not the kind of story you'd expect for a superhero fandom, but (technological aspects not looked at too closely) goosebump-inducing and tragic.

On The Record by valtyr
Tony vs the tabloids is an ongoing battle. These headlines might be the winning shot.

Another fun read. :)

After All That I Have Done to You by blue_jack
He liked to make Thor beg for it, to see him stripped down to a desperate, mewling thing that had no concept of pride or propriety, whose only thoughts were more and please and now.

Ok, this is Loki/Thor, but since Thor is techically a part of the Avengers verse, it's totally fine to put it in here, too. :P Power play with a nice bitter twist at the end.

And All The Towers Come Down by entanglednow
Thor cannot leave him there.

A wonderful dialogue between Loki and Thor.

Justice by astolat
"How was I to know?" Thor demanded. "Surely a 'Justice of the Peace' is meant to sentence evildoers! And why did he not say otherwise, if it was not so?"

Thor and Loki get accidentally (or not so accidentally) married. Hilarity ensues.

Right now I'm watching Iron Man. No reason why, it just seemed like a good idea this evening. Some nice timing you go there. ;-)

...I think I need help.

Heeeh, maybe my subconcious knew you'd need reading material afterwards? XD What did you think? Personally, Iron Man is one of my favourite superheroes, because he's such a magnificent bastard and not thoroughly gloriously good.

Help? Why exactly?

Hm... I don't really know. I guess it showed (once again) that super hero movies aren't really my thing. Because I watch it, and the characters are really cool and the action is well done and the storyline is not even that implausible (you know, for a super hero movie), but somehow, it didn't really *click* with me. Maybe X-Men: First Class is the exception that proves the rule, or maybe it's because that "outsider" position is something that I can relate to more than, say, the playboy billionaire, or maybe Michael Fassbender. I don't know.
But I DID go and watch the Iron Man vs. Batman arc on "Hi, I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC" after that, so maybe not all hope is lost for me.

From: [identity profile] ayascythe.livejournal.com
Everyone has a certain genre that just doesn't want to click with them (that would be science-fiction for me) and that's absolutely okay. I love superhero movies for their sheer, simple entertainment. X-Men First Class is definitely a little different from that, because it's not so much a movie about superheroes but more a movie about the racial differences between mutants and humans and the relationship between Charles and Erik (I keep repeating myself, but this is a coded tragic romance!). And Michael Fassbender may very well be another factor. ;)

And what is "Hi, I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC"??? *curious*

That sounds like a good explanation. Most action movies will just get that "yep, I see it's well done, but it doesn't push any buttons" reaction from me. I remember watching The Island, and during that chase scene, instead of clinging to the edges of my seat I was grinning madly because I thought it was nicely cut. *shrugs*

It's, erm... A parody of those old "Hi, I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" commercials. In which super hero action figures talk about their movies, they usually end up bitching at each other, Superman is having crisis after crisis, Spiderman gets drunk on milkshakes, and... oh, just watch it. It starts here, but you can also just watch the Iron Man/Batman bitch-a-thon. There's also a storyline in there somewhere (After Hours/Happy Hour), movie parodies, and the wonderful odd couple comedy Rorschach & Deadpool. Which is AWESOME.

AAAH, and now I got stuck for two hours watching "Hi I'm a Marvel and I'm a DC", because it's ridiculously addictive and the plot that happens is probably more reasonable and better than in most real superhero movies. O_O

My work here is done. :D Isn't it wonderful? (But don't spoil me for Happy Hour, I've only just started on the plot-heavy stuff after I told you about it.) Too bad there only ever was one X-Men First Class video (with a Star Wars reference from Charles, though. YES!!!)

And re: your earlier comment, the bit that I somehow managed to overread, yes, First Class hardly is a superhero movie at all. It's one part social commentary, one part (very, very badly, if at all, hidden) romance, and part James Bond pastiche. And then stuff blows up but it hardly matters. And that's what makes it so great. :D

It's beautiful, that's all I can say. XD My favourites are Batman ("Hi I'm a Marvel - I'm Batman" XDDD) and, actually, Superman (whom I find to be the most boring superhero otherwise). Oh, and Hulk, of course. *grins*
