Uh-oh… new fandom… (yet *another* one)

Seems I've found my new Christmas-/New Year's fandom. (Somehow I always end up in new fandoms around that time; last year, it's been BBM and in the year before that, Dogma.)
I've finally finished reading Death Note over the holidays and… OMFGsoaddictive! Best manga I've read in a long time! The characters are insanely smart (and hot *cough, cough*) and the plot is just so, so, so brilliant and makes you want to read the whole thing in one go. Everyone should read it! (And with everyone, I mean everyone!)
First thing: Raito… nghfsgdlkdGNAH!
Raito is TEH sex. He's so fucking smart and cunning, it's like an orgasm for your brain cells. Not to mention his arrogance and his complete lack of a conscience or an intact mind. Plus, I've never seen an anime/manga character who looks that effing hot in a suit (and he wears them all the time! *dies*). Raito is God. I want to kiss the ground he's walked upon. Like, so badly.
Also, he's the first protagonist I've ever come across who is evil, pursues not so nice goals and is hunted by the good antagonist. Still, I always wanted Raito to reach his goals and all those who got in his way to be killed. Because, well, it's so damn boring when only the good ones get to have success. Besides, I don't think you can say that Raito was truly evil. He did have some good intentions, after all, even if he got carried away a… lot.
And after all, who could resist such a charming smile? *g*
But – the ending?
NGH.
WTF?!
Bad. Evil. So, so, soooo not fair. Raito-samaaaaaa! *sobs*
"Humans, someday, will surely die… After death, their destination is nothingness."
*swallows hard* Poor Raito. Also, really quite bitter, if you think about it in a more general way. I guess there's nothing more frightening than the thought of disappearing into nothingness after you die.
And I still don't believe that L's really dead.
All the time, I was like "C'mon Raito, you can do it, kill him!" and cheering Raito on, and then he finally succeeds… and I completely refuse to believe it really happened. "L died of a heart attack? Yeah, whatever. Just an act. He'll be up and alive by the beginning of the next chapter for sure." That's seriously what I thought. Even after Near and Mello appeared, and even after the ending, I couldn't quite grasp the fact that L didn't survive.
I mean, of course, he needed to die. (I heart the guy, I really do. Who wouldn't? He's just too adorable and smart and everything and makes a perfect match for Raito. But everyone who gets into Kira's way cannot be tolerated. *evil laughter*) But still. I can't believe it.
Btw, I believe that DN makes great stuff for even greater fanfiction. It'd have to be very, very dark, psychological and sexy, I guess; I'm still looking for some sort of DN-epic of that kind, but I haven't found one yet. Which isn't entirely surprising.
The characters are annoyingly smart and cunning and effing hard to predict/grasp. Then there's the fact that there are hardly any holes in the timeline. The story's told very neatly, without much space for speculation or putting characters into slash-useful settings. A really, really good writer could probably pull it off in a believable, in-character way, but I don't think there are a lot of those out there.
Ah well, we'll have to see about that. As for now… Must. Find. DN-fiction… *manic grin* *goes off searching for fics*
Oh, and my OTP suggestions for Death Note are:
Raito/L… for obvious reasons. Two equal enemies hunting each other, distrust, (sexual) tension… the perfect nemesis-relationship à la Harry/Draco, only with much more IQ and corpses.
Raito/Teru… the Psycho OTP. I can so see the d/s going on between them. ("You are God. I will get on my knees and do as God wishes…" *eg*) And simply 'cause Teru's hot. Mentally deranged, but hot. *drools*
Raito/Matsuda… because he was the only one always gullibly believing in Raito and even felt sympathy for him when he was miserably passing away. *daww*
