DSA - Behind the Throne

A quick warning: this and all following entries about DSA will contain minor and major spoilers for both volumes of the Königsmacher/Kingmaker-campaign and various important NPCs of DSA. If you ever plan to play it (I know chances for that are low on my flist, but still), be warned.
Here's the summary of "Masken der Macht" (Masks of Power), the second volume of the campaign. It's mostly blurb and we haven't reached that volume yet (we won't for a couple of months), but I guess you'll get the idea:
My general summary of what happened so far (aka the dumbed-down version):
Our adventure started around the time when Amene Firdayon, current empress of the Horas realm died without leaving notes on who will be her successor. The country is split into fractions and her children are fighting for the throne: Adare, the eldest, wants to claim it for herself, but she's also a Hesinde priest (a clergywoman for one of the gods), which would clash with her responsibilities. Then there are two other siblings and the youngest - Timor Firdayon (*insert fangirl sigh*). Then there are the Galahanists - an outside fraction that has been questioning the throne for a while and actually thinks that Galahan is the rightful Horas. The country is on the brink of war.
Enter our group. We don't know each other yet, but - as beginnings of adventures go - we all happen to meet up at the same tavern and the same table. (I swear, 8 out of 10 adventures will start this way.) We introduce each other, do a bit of tentative small-talk and then our plot-point arrives: Geron, a former baron whose mother got falsely accused of working with demons, so the entire family got disowned and stripped of land and titles. Geron has been mocked for years and actually gets attacked at the tavern. Our group jumps in to help him and then agrees to help him with his bigger plan: he wants to gain back his land and title, starting with his castle Naumstein.
Together, we sneak in and win back the castle. But that is not enough: to win back the entire barony, he needs his title and insignia and needs to win back all the castles. For that, he needs an army and for that, he needs money. A lot of money. So this is our basis for now: we, as a group, try to help him collect allies, money and help him fight his battles to win back strategic points. But that's not all - when we sneaked in at Naumstein, we realised there was a lot more going on than just "normal" fighting for the throne - demons have their hands in it, too. And a very certain Timor Firdayon has already been mentioned more than once and he seems to be in this, too. (*insert another fangirl squeak*)
Our group:
Alrik - a Rondra priest (a clergyman for Rondra, the warrior goddess - it's more of a warrior caste with more fighting than, you know, preaching - her symbol is a lioness)
Esmeralda - a physician
Eilin - a bard (who is secretly a Phex priest - Phex is the god for thieves and merchants and also stands for luck/secrecy/cunning - his symbol is a fox)
Alonso - a cadet
Shinara - a noble-woman/diplomat (who is secretly a witch)
And then there's my baby, Raoul, a courtier and warrior.
As usual, two to three of those have not been very noteworthy so far, but Eilin has potential and Alrik has been my personal favourite so far. His and Raoul's relationship has been pretty interesting so far, because they are both blond, blue-eyed warriors (except that mine as the advantage of being good-looking while Alrik is average looking) and seem pretty similiar at first glance. However, Alrik is pretty judgemental towards Raoul because the Rabenmunds have a reputation for being intrigant, powerhungry assholes and because he dislikes nobility in general. The funny thing is that Raoul is an outcast among his own family and therefore dislikes nobility as well. Alrik and Raoul have had some interesting conversations so far and they could become interesting friends.
Some other plot details:
- Our group more or less involuntarily arranged a marriage between Geron and a wealthy Singora, so now he has some powerful allies and a lot of money. (At first he wasn't very happy about it, but as it turned out, both seem to fit each other quite well.)
- We regained Castello Lumian, but destroyed the castle in the process and one of the enemies could flee before we could capture him.
- There was a strange fog on the river that oddly looked like a pair of eyes was staring out of it. [SPOILER: Me, knowing what Timor is and knowing his abilities, had to hide a huge grin because that was, in fact, Timor himself, his body transformed into fog. Because he has taken an interest in us and in what we do. *insert fangirl flailing*]
