I've heard of the show through Fandomsecrets and, being curious and not knowing what it's about, decided to give it a go. For those who asked me the exact same thing ("I've seen this on F!S - what's it about?") here's a review under the cut. ^^

The Plot:
Glee is a musical club and the show centers around its teachers and members who are all, in one way or another, outsiders, nerds and very, very unpopluar. There's geek!boy in a wheelchair, stuttering!Asian-girl or one of the main characters: Rachel, raised by her two gay daddies and, imho, kind of a mash-up between a nice Sharpay Evans and Hermione Granger on crack. Then there's Finn, who is actually pretty cool, part of the football team and really doesn't want to be a part of Glee club, but is more or less forcerd to. That is, until he notices that he's kind of having fun singing and dancing. But you cannot be cool and in Glee club at the same time ... can you?

The themes:
Comedy, drama, romance, musical.

My impression:
It reminds me a lot of High School Musical, only with much less crack, less bubbles and rainbows, less Disney kitsch and overall more down-to-earth and realistic. Yet, the show doesn't take itself very seriously either. Most of the songs are performances on stage, so it's not a "show where people burst into song" (as the makers said). The characters are quirky and charming, although sometimes a little too stereotypical.

The music:
... is great. Really. I've had more than one earworm in the past few days because of this show. All of the actors have great voices and it's nice to see classics as well as new songs performed in a fresh and entertaining way. Some of my favourites: Don't stop believing, Sweet Caroline, Defying Gravity, Bust a move and many many more. ;)

My personal highlights:
1. Kurt Hummel who is a diva and so gay you'd have to be blind to believe he's not. His relationship to his dad is very heart-warming, seeing that Mr. Hummel is more on the manly!man-side and a little awkward when it comes to his son's sexuality. Yet, he supports Kurt in every way possible. <3

Quotes:
- One day you will all work for me.
-
You need to call me before you dress yourself...you look like a technicolor zebra
-
(To his dad) I'm proud of who I am. I'm just saying I love you more than I love being a star.

2. An entire football team dancing to Beyoncé's "All the single ladies" on the pitch. Best. Scene. Evar.

I say that this is a team-building measure that every Bundesliga club should do from now on.

3. Noah Puckerman, or short "Puck": Finn's best friend, a bullying, cocky football hunk, but a good guy somewhere deep in his heart. Also he is, uhm, really kinda hot. See?

Quotes:
- Hey ankle grabber, I had sex with your mother. No seriously. I cleaned your pool and then I had sex with her in your bed. Nice “Star Wars” sheets.
-
I bet you thought Bert and Ernie were just roommates.
- Are you questioning my bad-assness? Have you seen my guns?
- I used the two things I know the most about: lying and crime.

Bottom line:
Glee is no revelation, but it really is addictive - both for the music and the chemistry between several couples. (I ship so many characters with even more characters, you have no idea.) If you like music, musicals and/or light comedy and romance, you might probably like this. Personally, I love it and definitely will be waiting for more. :)
