Awesomesauce! I just saw it and had a lot of fun doing so. I guess you shouldn't be very nitpicky about sticking to the original, because it is, well, not at all like that (saying this with my limited Doyle-experience of several short-stories). It was strongly pepped up with action scences and fist-fights (although very cleverly enacted fist-fights), but I like to have my action scences all the time from time to time, so that was fine. Also, movie!Holmes (Robert Downey Jr., mmmm, very sexy *purrs*) was a lot more eccentric than the original Holmes, but pretty convincing. Jude Law as Watson was great.
All in all, it was a clever and entertaining movie and at least the case Holmes and Watson needed to solve was unfurled in a very classic Holmes-ish manner. Lovers of detective stories are going to be satisfied, I think. Just in case nothing of the things mentioned above sparks your interest (action, actors, whodunnit, etc. pp) ... there's still the slashy subtext/bromance/manly friendship between Holmes and Watson. And believe me, it's very present, right to the point where it just pokes you in the eye. ;)

Now, where do I find the soundtrack ...?

I just found out: It's a hans Zimmer soundtrack :D and it got an oscar nomination. So if it is good as the Gladiator-one, I'd like to have it too :D

I was kind of surprised, because it sounds very different from his usual soundtracks, but yes, it is Hans Zimmer. *blinks* I already found the soundtrack, so yeah, you can have it. ;)

Sherlock Holmes is an awesome movie!

(Now I don't have much Doyle experience either, I own one book with short stories, but would you really say that RDJ's Holmes was more eccentric than book!Holmes? There were less drugs in the movie than there is in the stories... And apparently Holmes was an old boxer so adding that to the movie as an excuse for more action wasn't that against canon...)

And believe me, it's very present, right to the point where it just pokes you in the eye. ;)-- This made me giggle, cause it's so true. (My mother went out of that theatre agreeing with me on the epic love of Holmes/Watson!)

Oooh, yeah! The soundtrack was absolutely gorgeous! I would love to know where I could find that...

Hmm, good question. It just felt a bit crazier and more over-the-top than in the book. I remember book!Holmes as eccentric, but in a rather quiet, dignified way. Maybe that was just the writing style or maybe my memory fails me here (it's been a while since I read that).

This made me giggle, cause it's so true.
They're so dependent on each other and the bickering is just like that of an old married couple! :D I really need to start looking into the fandom for some fic ...
