Doctor Who season 5

Me + too much time + no social life to speak of = finally catching up with Who. And, well that was fun. I adore Amy. I love Rory (so awesome *hearts*). And the Doctor. Well, he's the Doctor, right? Gotta love him. (Although I'm pretty sure the Doctor is asexual and shipping doesn't really interest me in this show, I could very well imagine some sort of one-sided Doctor-having-feelings-for-Rory ... -thing. But then, I just love the three of them together - Amy, Rory and the Doctor, all of them somehow caring for each other in their own ways and their destinies entangled.)
My favourite episodes were The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below, which were so fucking fantastic and magical in a childish, fairy-tale way. I think that's part of why I got stuck with the series in the first place. Because science-fiction and cheap SFX never really were my thing (hai there, Babylon 5! I love you, but oh, these shows with the crappy alien make-up), but something about Dr. Who brings out my inner child and lets my eyes light up. And then Vincent and the Doctor, which made me cry so much, I don't even know. It was beautiful and sad and so touching - something I never would've expected from Dr. Who because I mostly watched it for the fun.
There were some flaws and weaker episodes - namely The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood and The Lodger - and themoving trashcans Daleks positively grate on my nerves (their voices, gah!), but all in all I really liked watching this season of Dr. Who. Count me in for the future seasons (no, I'm not ready to check out the past seasons, yet - I'm too fond of my OT3-made-of-win for now).

Date: 2010-08-25 08:18 am (UTC)Don't worry, I can't get my head wrapped around Who fandom either. For one thing, I don't really have the urge to do so, for another: the show's way too cracky to be taken seriously all the time. It's supposed to be unrealistic, for chrissake! I mean, if you start picking the show apart because of the Deus Ex Machina, then you'd have to go on with the wacky time travel paradoxes ...-ons ...-things (and, oh dear God, Physics) and then you could never stop.

Ja. Soviel dazu von mir...
Ich finde die Daleks normalerweise eigentlich gut. Aber diese Power-Ranger-sort-of Daleks waren mir auch suspekt...
