I'll just snag the first part of the definition from fanlore, because they describe it better than I could:
A Big Bang is a specific type of challenge usually involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms.
Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc.
So, it's a little bit like NaNo, only with more time to write and fanart-collaborations.
It's also a great opportunity to write down ideas you've been carrying in your head, like, let's say, certain crossovers about characters with striking similarities that become friends. *nudge nudge wink wink*
Ooooh no you don't! Don't think I haven't checked the timeline and I don't even know if I'll be in country for quite a bit this year, and the only big bang fic I'll be writing any time soon is my bloody MA thesis and besides, I can't even write stuff that long!
...aww heck, you're going to persuade me anyway, aren't you?
I, uhm. May have toyed with the idea of doing some fanart for something, though.
Reposted because I can't click the right button right away. *facepalm*
No, I try to leave people their free will - all I do is give a little nudge here and there and hope it will lead to something. ;) But if you don't have the time, that's absolutely okay!
Well, lemme see how things look April/May-ish. If I've got all my due papers and a first idea about the thesis by then it could be okay. Problem is, though, that maybe I'll be away for August, too, so we'd have to get a lot done in June/July... *buries head in sand*
Yeah, I... Well. If something inspires me, and I can finally figure out how to draw anything besides portraits, and if drawing my catalogue won't have me completely worn out... (As you can see, this won't go over easily and there'll be lots of whining involved. Apologies in advance)
Well, no need to stress yourself out - if it doesn't fit into your timetable, it doesn't. ^^ The idea won't run away because of that and I plan to stick with the Avengers fandom for quite a while. We(? you?) could always make it a NaNoWriMo project instead or something.
Hey hey now, if anything ever happens with those two being written, it'll be We. Cause wasn't that whole thing your idea anyway? I just said they were kinda similar. (And besides, I'd never get something like that written on my own anyway. :P)
