Well, that was a really good movie. Not earth-shatteringly good, but really, really good. For those who haven't heard of it yet: Chronicle tells the story of three teenage boys who happen to find an unknown source of energy and somehow get "infected" with it. They have telekinetic powers after that encounter and continue to train their powers, trying to find out how far they can go with it. As things usually go, it's all pretty great in the beginning and then starts to go horribly wrong when one of them starts to lose control over himself and his powers.
The movie was made with heldhand cameras - kind of like Cloverfield - and that really adds to the atmosphere of the movie. I have to admit they did a pretty clever job to include the cameras in some of the scenes. The three boys are interesting enough (I especially liked Steve), but the main character is definitely Andrew. His mother is terminally ill, his father a fist-happy asshole, he gets bullied at school and has no friends except for his rather unwilling cousin. In case you didn't guess it already: he's the one to snap after half of the movie. And well, take the telekinetic powers away, switch them with a gun and you have that typical story of a teenage kind running amok after he's been pushed too far. Except that the telekinesis thing is far, far cooler, of course. (My thoughts during the first half of the movie: JEALOUSY OMG I WANT THAT TOO DO NOT TORTURE ME SO.)
Definitely something different from all the mainstream stuff out there, and slightly darker as well. My only complaint would be that the movie's a little short - just when things get really interesting, it's already over again.
