... this is a question for you.^^

Eure Meinung bitte! Danke! :)

It's World Book Day!

Hence, book appreciation. Tell me something about books - what you're reading, your favourite book(s) and/or author, what is special about books, what makes you love them (or not?), quotes, anyting. Anything.

These are not books, lumps of lifeless paper, but minds  alive on the shelves.  From each of them goes out its own voice... and just as the touch of a button on our set will fill the room with music, so by taking down one of these volumes and opening it, one can call into range the voice of a man far distant in time and space, and hear him speaking to us, mind to mind, heart to heart.  ~Gilbert Highet

There are books so alive that you're always afraid that while you weren't reading, the book has gone and changed, has shifted like a river; while you went on living, it went on living too, and like a river moved on and moved away.  No one has stepped twice into the same river.  But did anyone ever step twice into the same book?  ~Marina Tsvetaeva

Yet another Strikethrough/Pornogate? Oh, come on.

You would think LJ/6A would have learned something from the mess they've created the last time. One or two more of these incidents and LJ will be a dead place when it comes to fandom. Seriously. The time that fandom is going to start a mass migration seems not that unlikely anymore.

Either way, I got myself a Greatestjournal-account, just as a precaution. Add me, if you've got one over there, too, kay? :)

ETA: You know, this is seriously worrying me. And LJ/6A hasn't done anything yet to clean up this mess or given any open statement at all.

"In this case, they clearly did not see serious artistic value in content that simply displayed graphic sexual acts involving minors."

"Add that to the fact that they are going to be adding a "report abuse" button to all posts from now on and it looks pretty convincing to me that they are trying to chase fandom away."

All I can say is: WTF?!
ayascythe: Pink Reaper (Daria)
I don't even dare looking at all the responses to the news posts at LJ any longer shoot me, I'm doing it, anyways in fear of major headaches that may very well result from this. Also, if I have to see one more "Never shall we die", I think I'm going to scream. It's killing me, honestly. I'm done with it, at least for the moment.

(To think that I actually missed half of all the drama... I don't even want to know what my state of mind would be, had I been at home and with internet access yesterday...)

I'm still kind of trying to figure out what has actually happened here and what opinion I have to this.

I mean, I can see where people are coming from. Being thrown into one big pot along with pedophiles and child molesters is not funny. That deleting mostly harmless LJs without warning is a clear no-no goes unsaid. (And wtf, due to all the panic kinky_twincest - biggest Good Charlotte Twincest Community on LJ - even got renamed into [personal profile] maddens... *pouts* Damn, I liked the old name...)

Yet, I fear that a lot of people are getting worked up about this a bit too much. LJ has fucked up big time, yes, but I guess it's time for all of us to calm down a little. Thank goodness that they finally decided to actually respond to all of this (was about time!) and it seems they're already trying to fix this mess (in other words: restoring most of the deleted journals).

I definitely need a break from all of this now, that's why I'll be off now, trying to make some sense out of a very, very weird plotbunny. (Though I'm very, very curious about the outcome and long-term impact this whole desaster will have. Will there be even more trouble? Will there be a mass migration to alternatives like Greatestjournal?)

(One of the few nice things to see during the past two days: despite lots and lots and lots and lots of wank among LJ users because of different opinions, there was still an immense sense of unity among fandom which I'd love to see more often.)

ETA: Just a little thing to come back down to earth again and remember that LJ is NOT everything in life (though it makes quite a big part of it *winks*). Link kindly provided by [profile] louphoenix who found this on [community profile] metaquotes.

"Warriors For Innocence - Haunting monsters on the web. We are the only thing that stands between evil and the innocent."

(Took the link down, in case of any backtracking.)

This is not a lame joke. They're serious, and it's freaking the hell outta me.

I won't put up the links to any discussions, as it's easy enough to find some. Just go looking in some of the bigger comms (fandom doesn't matter), it's practically everywhere. However, I'd advise anyone with (tw)incest [pedophilia, etc.] in their interests to remove it from their user profile, just to be safe. I did it, too. It's just a small (albeit annoying) thing to do, but I think it'll be precaution enough, at least for the moment.

And stupid, stupid me ruined my keyboard with chocolate pudding(!) half an hour ago, so the space key is all wobbly and loose now, because I tried to clean beneath it, and it gets slightly stuck when I press it, and overall, the whole keyboard reeks of chocolate, which I absolutely hate.

Oh, I feel pissed off enough at the moment to return to my sarcastic, world-hating self again. Hi there, I thought I wouldn't see you again for a while. *shakes hands with self* (In this regard, notice my shiny new Daria icon. <3)
'M just glad to get out of this all for a bit. Will be visiting [profile] louphoenix today and stay overnight, then go out with a good friend of mine at Friday night. Hopefully, this will help me to get my head cleared from all of this... stuff.

Stumbled across several posts with FanLib discussion today and as far as I can tell, this seems to be a big topic at the moment.

So... Fans being indignant. Fans discussing about this. But... what is the actual problem?! *feels kind of clueless and stupid*
Okay, FanLib seems to make money off putting fanfiction from various authors on their site. However, reading fic there seems to be for free, so I don't see how this is working.

Maybe it's my lack of knowledge of how internet sites actually work, maybe the fact that I was just skimming the meta-posts (yeah, I'm lazy - sue me :P) or I'm simply too dumb or lacking English skills. But I just don't get it.

Anyone willing and able to clear this up for me?
