ayascythe: Pink Reaper (TVD ~ Caroline & Tyler ~ I'm here)
I will hand in my thesis tomorrow. It's printed out, everything's done and ready and now I only need to wait. Apart from that, I think I'm falling into a bit of a post-bachelor-hole, because I'm just really, really tired and not happy at all. I just want to sleep and forget all about it. Oh, but that might be because I still have to present my thesis in front of an undefined number of co-workers, because my teamleader wants to torture me said so. No, he's actually quite nice, but this is a thing that will keep me in a state of panic anxiety and do-not-want until it's over. Until then, I won't be able to truly relax or feel relieved. Bugger.

What I did do to spoil myself a little and get into a better mood: going on a huge Amazon-shopping spree.

Destined for an early Grave is actually a Tauschticket order, but it arrived on the same day, so. And the Eagle of the Ninth chronicles, because they are clearly the in-thing to read for slash-fans at the moment and I am so fucking excited for the movie you have no idea. Ahem. ;)

Tag 29 – Warum zur Hölle wurde dieses Buch verfilmt??? / Why the hell did they make a movie out of this???
Okay, this one's got me clueless. I'm usually not very up in arms about movie-adaptions. I might bitch about when they don't get certain things right, but I'm not really surprised or complaining when books get turned into films. Different medium and all.

Oh, and Detective Conan has eaten my brain. I'm having serious childhood teenage-years flashbacks from when I used to watch it on TV. It's so much fun and Heiji has such an obvious crush on Shinichi it's not even funny anymore. (Subtext? I call that canon. [/delusional rambling]) Which makes it even more incomprehensible there's so little of him to be found in fandom. *pouts*
ayascythe: Pink Reaper (Narnia ~ Lucy & Tumnus)
I'm craving for Detective Conan fic and LJ is not being helpful (or I'm just looking in the wrong places?). So I'm digging my way through all the archives I know, including Animexx and Fanfiktion.de. Yes, I'm that desperate. I'd be happy with some half-assed anything but the summaries alone make my eyes bleed. Sorry kids, but I can't bring myself to read that. (It's a little mean, because I used to be like that, cracky summaries, awful plot ideas and all. Anime fandom kind of does that to you, especially in your teens.) Also, the English name-changing makes me cringe. (Jimmy Kudo?! Rachel Moore?!)

-  I'm reading New Moon and it's a bit disappointing so far. Maybe it's because I've seen the film already, but it's not nearly as loltastic as Twilight and rather dull. Zombie!Bella grates on my nerves, but the Jacob parts are surprisingly nice.
- I'm also reading lots of Detective Conan/Case Closed lately which reminds me how much in love I was/still am with this anime/manga. The lack of Shinichi/Heiji fic is depressing, though.
- Funniest Cloud fanart I've ever seen. *snorts*

Tag 27 – Ein Buch, dessen Hauptperson dein „Ideal“ ist / A book whose main character is your "ideal"

I'm not quite sure what they mean with ideal, but I'll just go with role model/idol in the sense of "this is what I admire and would love to be".

Amazon Sells More E-Books Than Hardcover Copies
Over the past three months, Amazon reports selling 143 Kindle e-books for every 100 hardcovers. And over the past month, for every 100 hardcover books Amazon has sold, it has sold 180 Kindle e-books.

This probably comes off as a little crazy, but something about this makes me raise my hackles. I had my first computer when I was 9, grew up as/into a media geek and wouldn't trade the internet for anything in the world. I have read more fanfiction on a computer than I could count, but the thought of solid real books slowly but eventually disappearing from our society somehow terrifies me. :/ - Damn, I feel like Giles from "Buffy". Also old.

Sakrileg/The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

Yeah, I was one of those people who gave in to the hype and just wanted to know what it was all about. I guess there's some hate for the Robert Langdon books out there for being mainstream and silly, but I found them and this one in particular pretty entertaining. I LIKE TREASURE HUNTS AND MYSTERIES, OK? Also, Silas sparked my interest high and long enough for me to dabble in the (admittedly slightly crazy) fandom and read fics.

Tag 16 – Das 9. Buch in deinem Regal v.r. / The 9th book on your shelf, from the right

Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

I had a lot of trouble with reading LotR. The story Tolkien wanted to tell and the world he created for it - they're both wonderful and fantastic. But let's face it: he's a terrible narrator. The landscapes. The pacing. The huge chunks of story about one part of the group without ever knowing what happened to the rest of them. It was strenuous. The Two Towers got tossed aside for half a year, because I was so frustrated.

However, I enjoyed The Return of the King quite a lot, simply because there was happening so much in it and it was the last volume. I knew it'd be over after that and I would finally know how it all turns out. It was exciting and epic and, as I closed the book, I felt this huge wave of melancholia wash over me. I had the feeling that some things were lost to Frodo forever and he would never truly be "at home" or "whole" again. That, and the strange feeling of having finished a long, long journey, will forever be connected with that book for me. And I mean that in a positive way, because books rarely make me feel that way.

  • I'm making notes for Compression Procedures and keep writing MPREG instead of MPEG. Oh, the damage fandom has done to my brain. I hope this doesn't happen while writing the exam.
  • Somewhat related to that: out of curiosity, I looked up the trailer for "The Human Centipede" and was left with a queasy stomach for the rest of the morning and a major OMGWHYYYYYPLSMAKEMEUNSEETHIS squick-feeling for the rest of the day. There are times when I wish brain bleach was a real product I could use to erase my memories. (In case anyone feels inspired to watch the trailer for themselves: read the Wikipedia page first. It's the kind of thing that makes people either burst into fits of laughter or is high-octane nightmare fuel. For me, it's the latter.)

Seems to be a nice guy. Now I want to see the Philippine national team play, but according to Wikipedia they're too crappy to reach more than the first rounds, lol. Tag 12 – Ein Buch, das du von Freunden/Bekannten/… empfohlen bekommen hast / A book that got recced to you by friends/...

Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story (Original title: Glennkill - Ein Schafskrimi) by Leonie Swann

In this refreshingly original detective story from debut German author Swann, a flock of sheep investigates the murder of their beloved shepherd, George Glenn. Leading the effort is Miss Maple, considered the cleverest sheep in the Irish seaside village of Glennkill. She slyly "pretends" to graze while eavesdropping on suspects who come to search George's caravan for something he may have died for. When a long-lost ram recounts an incident that occurred upon his departure years earlier, Miss Maple uncovers the catalyst for George's death.

A couple of friends were gushing to me about this and after I showed great interest in the book they gave it to me as a Christmas present. :) The story is completely told from the PoV of sheep, which can be incredibly funny and nerve-stretching at the same time because when it's a choice between food or thrilling discoveries? Yeah, you can bet they choose the food. XD Still, this book is the lovliest, funniest thing ever with charming characters and a nice whodunnit wrapped around it.

So I was watching the match via livestream yesterday, right? Well, by the end of the match pretty much everyone of the supposed football haters were sitting around me and kept giving me their two cents about the match. Suddenly, everyone was highly informed about the Mannschaft. Lol. "BAH, stupid football" my ass. (And then we got nearly blown away and drowned by a thunderstorm.)
ANYWAY, I'm so glad we at least made third place (again). Thank you guys, you were fantastic.

Ahahaha, I have a 1,0 in French. *wiggles* OK, it wasn't that hard, but still. It's a nice push in motivation. And there's one exam off the list, still 4 more to go.

Tag 05 – Ein Buch, das du immer und immer wieder lesen könntest / A book you you could read again and again

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

On one level this work is the story of an airman's discovery of a small boy from another planet in the desert and his stories of intergalactic travel, and on the other hand it is a thought-provoking allegory of the human condition.

To avoid answering half of the questions of this meme with "Harry Potter" (because I totally could and it wouldn't be a lie), I picked "The Little Prince". I discovered this book for myself only two years ago, because I finally wanted to know what this was all about. I adored it. And with every read, I adore it a little bit more. It's the kind of book I never get fed up with and that still makes me teary-eyed on certain scenes. A simple and short, but truly beautiful read.

"Goodbye, said the fox. "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret.
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
